Antique Silver Anklet

One of a pair. Most Muslim jewellery of the Horn of Africa is very ornate. So this large, heavy, engraved anklet with the cuboid endings is quite unusual. These anklets are worn by the Rashaida nomadic women who live in the border region between Sudan, Eritrea and Ethiopia, where they moved to about 150 years ago from Saudi Arabia. This anklet looks as if it has been more influenced by the simple geometric designs of the Tuareg people of the Sahara, or Egyptian jewellery than by Arab design.
