Antique Pakistani silver arm band / bracelet

One of a pair of exquisite, antique silver armbands purchased in Pechawar, Pakistan, in the days when it was still safe for a foreign woman to travel there alone. Pechawar is a Pakistani town on the border with Afghanistan, near the Khyber Pass and is mainly inhabited by Afghanis. It is now believed to be a Taliban stronghold and therefore much more difficult to travel around as an unaccompanied woman. This arm band has required an incredible level of workmanship and expertise in its creation. It is made up of a series of units, hand cut into rows of flowers that fit into each other as if part of a jigsaw. They are then threaded onto a multi-strand of black cotton which is adjustable in length. Can be worn as an arm band or bracelet.
