Antique Central Asian wedding necklace
A sumptuous tribal bridal ornament from Bukhara region of Central Asia. It is partly fire-gilded, inlaid with brightly coloured glass and would be worn as a long necklace, probably as part of a full set of jewellery. The Oases of the Bukhara were used as watering holes and rest stops on the spice routes that once crossed Asia. The resulting trade turned it into a prosperous region, and the craftsmen of the area became known for their opulent jewellery. This is a very unusual museum-quality piece of jewellery.
Height top to bottom: approx 21 cm / 8 inches
