This contemporary necklace is made using handmade clay beads from Lesotho, which is a mountain kingdom within the borders of South Africa. Lesotho has a large rural population and one of the highest rates of HIV/AIDS in Africa due to the high proportion of men who leave their homes to become migrant workers in South Africa. The labour - intensive production required for these clay beads creates much needed work, and supports female heads of households and families living with HIV/AIDS. The necklace also comprises hand cast brass or pewter from a small independent workshop in Cape Town.
Available in cream clay and brass, brown clay and brass, or black clay and pewter.
Length: approx 56 cm / 22 inches
